Genstar Land Company USA Led by Bob McLeod, founder of
Newland Newland's predecessor company was Genstar Land
Company (USA), the US property division of Genstar Corporation.
Newland's founder Bob McLeod joined Genstar Land Company as
President, Southwest Development. He was soon promoted to Chief
Executive Officer responsible for all residential and commercial
development including oversight of University City, San Diego, a
1,100-acre mixed-use urban community with over 3,600,000 sf of
retail, office and industrial.
1987-1993
Genstar USA forms The Newland Group
Genstar USA forms The Newland Group Genstar
Corporation was acquired and the US property division put up for
sale. The management of Genstar's US division formed The Newland
Group and entered into partnership with American General Realty
Investment Corporation and acquired Genstar's US Land assets, which
included 19 real estate projects in five states.
1994
Newland, the first and largest land development advisor to
CalPERS
Newland becomes the first and largest land development
advisor to CalPERS The partnership between The Newland
Group and American General was dissolved, and Newland's principals
formed Newland Associates and Newland Capital Advisors, becoming
the sole land development advisor to the California Public
Employees Retirement Systems (CalPERS) on its residential
acquisition and development program.
1995-1998

Newland invests CalPERS funds in California real
estate Newland received a significant allocation from
CalPERS for residential acquisiton and development. This capital
was invested in five California mixed-use developments.
1999
Hunt Realty Investments partners with Newland
Hunt Realty Investments partners with Newland
Hunt Realty Investments of Dallas (a Hunt Consolidated subsidiary,
and the centralized real estate management resource for the Hunt
enterprise) acquired an interest in Newland and the new partners
created American Newland Communities (ANC). CalPERS and ANC formed
a direct partnership, Newland Communities, and received another
capital allocation from CalPERS for residential acquisition and
development.
2000-2002
Newland acquires Genstar Land Company
Newland acquires Genstar Land Company With
CalPERS, Newland purchased Genstar Land Company, consisting of 34
land development projects in seven states.
2003
Newland acquires Terrabrook
Newland acquires Terrabrook Newland acquired 21
community developments from Terrabrook, a Dallas-based land
development subsidiary of Westbrook Partners. This acquisition
doubled Newland's size and added 150 team members.
2005
City of Las Vegas chooses Newland as development partner
City of Las Vegas chooses Newland as development
partner Newland was chosen by the City of Las Vegas as
project manager of Symphony Park, a 61-acre mixed-use urban
development in the heart of downtown Las Vegas. Newland's agreement
with the City included the opportunity to acquire the urban
residential parcels within Symphony Park.
2006

Hundreds of millions raised in equity for real estate
acquisitions and investment Newland raised several hundred
million dollars in equity for investments in existing projects and
major new acquisitions in the Eastern US.

Two green-built mixed-use developments open
With a focus on sustainable development, Newland opened Briar
Chapel, a 1,589 mixed-use residential community in Chapel Hill, NC.
Also, construction began at Symphony Park with the iconic Frank
Gehry-designed Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.
Symphony Park was awarded LEED® for Neighborhood Development Gold
Stage 2 certification by the US Green Building Council.
2009
Three real estate projects on list of top-selling US
communities
Three real estate projects on list of top-selling US
communities Newland had three communities, all located in
Houston, Texas, on RCLCO's annual list of top-selling US planned
communities and was the only company on the list reporting
year-over-year positive sales gains. RCLCO is a leading independent
real estate advisory firm.
2010
Newland has the #1 selling community in the US
Cinco Ranch: #1 selling planned community in the US in
2009; Telfair #4
Newland's Cinco Ranch is rated the #1 best-selling community in the
nation and Telfair is #4 according to RCLCO's list of top-selling
US master-planned communities for 2009. Five Newland communities
were in the top 15 best-selling in the nation, and Newland was the
only developer with two communities in the top ten that posted
year-over-year sales growth.
