Bob McLeod


Bob is the founder and true visionary behind the growth and evolution of Newland in becoming one of the largest privately held real estate developers in the US. Under Bob's leadership, Newland and its affiliates have developed, acquired, completed for its own account, and managed for third parties a combined total of more than 140 projects, including master-planned residential communities, mixed-use centers, urban skyscrapers, corporate headquarters, and industrial parks.

Bob has developed residential and urban mixed-use real estate for over 45 years. Prior to Newland, he was President and CEO of Genstar Land—USA (Newland's predecessor company) where he had complete responsibility for all residential and commercial development activities, including 20 master-planned communities in five states encompassing approximately 28,000 acres.

Bob is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. He has served as an active member of Berkeley's Policy Advisory Board for the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics for the past 20 years. He has been a member of the Urban Land Institute since the early 1980s and serves on the Board of Governors of the ULI Foundation. Bob was named Real Estate Entrepreneur of the Year in the Greater San Diego Ernst & Young 2002 Entrepreneur of the Year competition, in 2011 was honored with the Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Achievement Award, and in June 2013 was inducted into the California Homebuilding Foundation Hall of Fame.


Douglas L. Hageman



Doug joined Newland in 2004 and is responsible for the management of all legal matters affecting Newland and its affiliates. He also oversees all entitlement efforts throughout the portfolio providing leadership in acquisitions/dispositions and development/land use issues. Additionally, Doug provides support and direction for Newland team members, advising on risk management, litigation matters, finance/lender issues, workouts/restructurings, employment issues, construction projects, corporate governance, and other real estate management related matters.

Doug was recognized in 2010 and 2014 by the San Diego Daily Transcript/San Diego Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsels as one of the Top Corporate Counsels in San Diego County. In 2015 and 2016, he was recognized by the San Diego Business Journal as a Finalist in the San Diego General Counsel Awards. Doug serves as a member of both the Investment and Executive Committees for Newland.

Before joining Newland, Doug was Senior Vice President, Corporate Secretary, and General Counsel for TrizecHahn Development Corporation. At Hahn, his entitlement experience included the Hollywood & Highland development in Hollywood, CA; North County Faire in Escondido, CA; and Park Meadows Mall in Lone Tree, CO. Doug received both his Bachelor’s Degree (Magna Cum Laude) and his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of San Diego School of Law and is a licensed California Real Estate Broker.



Vicki R. Mullins



Vicki provides strategic leadership and management of Newland’s financial operations. She oversees capital management, investor relations, financial planning and reporting, accounting, tax, information technologies, and risk management functions within the company. Vicki is Chairman of the Investment Committee and a member of the Executive Committee, providing strategic direction for the company’s existing funds and projects as well as new business opportunities.

Prior to joining Newland, Vicki was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Prometheus Real Estate Group, an owner, manager and developer of multifamily and commercial real estate. She was responsible for overseeing operational, development, financial, and human resource functions. As Vice President of Finance and Accounting at The Irvine Company, a diversified real estate company, Vicki's responsibilities included overseeing the financial operations of apartment and condominium development, management, and sales. Prior to that, Vicki served as Audit Manager at Ernst & Young in their Newport Beach, CA office.   

Vicki graduated with honors from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is a Certified Public Accountant and licensed California Real Estate Broker. Vicki is an Urban Land Institute Governor, Policy Advisory Board member for the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics, University of California at Berkeley, and Policy Advisory Board member for the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate, University of San Diego.


Walter F. Nelson



Ted provides operational and senior leadership to the development of Newland’s residential master-planned, commercial, retail, and urban mixed-use real estate projects. Ted leads the growth strategy for Newland through oversight and coordination of acquisition opportunities including sourcing, due diligence, contracting, and closing of all acquisition activity.

Prior to joining Newland, Ted served as Vice President/General Manager for Terrabrook’s Houston operation and in a regional capacity in Texas. He began his career with The Woodlands Development Corporation in its residential development division. He also served in several capacities for American General Land Development’s (predecessor to Terrabrook) Houston operations.

Ted received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas and did post graduate study in accounting at the University of Houston. Ted is a member of the Urban Land Institute and serves on its Senior Housing Council as well as a member of the executive committee of the local Houston, Texas chapter. He also serves on the executive committee of the West Houston Association and is a past chairman.

Rita G. Brandin



Rita provides operational and senior leadership to Newland's commercial and urban mixed-use development projects. Under Rita's direction, Newland led the development of Symphony Park, a 61-acre downtown public-private mixed-use development with the City of Las Vegas as landowner.

Rita has more than 20 years experience in real estate asset management and development. Prior to joining Newland she was Vice President of Asset Management and Retail Development with additional responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer at Metroflag Management LLC. Before this she was Senior Vice President of Retail Development for The Howard Hughes Corporation and Vice President and Senior Development Director for The Rouse Company where she oversaw the expansion and redevelopment of Fashion Show, the largest shopping center in Nevada. She also managed all aspects of operations, leasing, marketing, financial management, and development of nine regional shopping centers.

Rita received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Agnes Scott College, in Atlanta, Georgia, and a space planning and design degree from The Art Institute of Atlanta. She is a certified Shopping Center Manager, a professional designation awarded by the International Council of Shopping Centers and is a member of the Urban Land Institute serving on its Urban Mixed-Use Council, and on the Executive Board of the Las Vegas chapter.


Timothy C. Durie


Tim is responsible for directing the attraction, development, and retention of Newland’s team members who make up one of the most experienced and innovative teams in real estate today. In addition to the compensation and benefits functions, Tim advises management in policy and program matters, effective organization structure, and strategies to improve organizational and team member performance. He also oversees the development and delivery of training and education programs for the company.

Throughout his career Tim has held numerous positions in the areas of labor relations, employee relations, executive search, and as a human resources generalist. Prior to joining Newland, Tim was the Director, Human Resources for Dallas-based developer Terrabrook. Before this he served various Human Resources positions in professional services and operations companies.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.


Malee C. Tobias



Malee provides strategic leadership and management of Newland’s marketing operations and programs. In her role, Malee leads communications, brand strategy, research, CRM, and customer insights across Newland’s operating divisions nationwide. Malee is an integral member of the regional project teams, collaborating to identify market and customer opportunities, market positioning, marketing strategies, acquisitions, development strategy, and product planning.

Malee has 15+ years of experience in real estate and development. Malee joined Newland in 2006 to lead research, integrating economic and marketplace trends, consumer insights, and customer and product segmentation to drive development strategies, community planning, and the company’s core business. Prior to joining Newland, Malee was Vice President at RCLCO, a national advisory firm serving the real estate industry, specializing in development strategy, planning, market and product segmentation, and economic and fiscal impact analyses for mixed-use, residential, and commercial developments across the US. Malee has also held positions at several public and non-profit institutions, including the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, UCLA Center for the Study of Urban Poverty, and the City of Los Angeles.

Malee is a full member of Urban Land Institute and is Assistant Chair of ULI’s Community Development Council (Green Flight). Malee is a graduate of UCLA, where she received a double major in Economics and Political Science. She received a Master’s degree in public policy and urban planning from Harvard University, with a concentration in urban development, housing, and real estate. Malee is a Woodrow Wilson Fellow in Public Policy and International Affairs.


Richard L. Croteau



Rick has over 25 years of real estate experience, and retired as Regional President, East Region in 2015, having held that position for the past 12 years.

His real estate experience spans 26 markets throughout the US. Prior to joining Newland, he was a Senior Vice President with Terrabrook, holding regional and national management positions on investment committees and all Joint Venture Boards. During this time Rick oversaw the development of many real estate projects including the McKinney Texas community of Stonebridge Ranch, a 5,000-acre mixed-use development with approximately 9,000+ single- and multifamily homes, 280 acres of retail, and 270 acres of office space. Previous to Terrabrook, Rick was Vice President and General Manager of Mobil Land Development Corporation’s Texas Region. At Mobil he worked in the international real estate services group doing in-house office and industrial site selection and leasing.

Rick has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Rhode Island.


Daniel C. Van Epp



As a member of Newland’s Investment Committee, Dan brings more than three decades of experience in real estate entity management and leadership, most recently as Executive Vice President, Capital Markets and Acquisitions at Newland until his retirement in March 2017. He also served as owner of The Van Epp Companies, a Nevada company engaged in the development and ownership of high quality real estate assets. From 1995 through 2004, he was Senior Vice President of The Rouse Company and President of its affiliate, The Howard Hughes Corporation, where he was responsible for the planning, development, and production of residential, retail, and office projects totaling millions of square feet. While at the Hughes Corporation, he led the development of the 22,500-acre Summerlin community in Las Vegas, the country's best-selling master-planned community for a decade. He led teams that developed land for 21,000 homes, sold property valued at more than $1 billion, and developed more than two million square feet of office and retail space in Las Vegas.

Dan is the recipient of numerous industry and civic awards, a three-term Trustee of the Urban Land Institute, and a past chairman of the Community Development Council. He is a graduate, Cum Laude, of Virginia Tech.
