Demand for New Home Building Shifts to the Burbs

A shift for new housing construction to more suburban and exurban areas has been fueled largely by the Covid-19 pandemic. The move for many to work from home is enabling many families to seek housing in lower density and lower cost communities according to NAHB Home Building Geography Index (HBGI). Suburbs in smaller metros have seen the largest uptick followed by small towns.
